By Air, the nearest airport to reach Ranthambore is Sanganer Airport in Jaipur. The distance between Jaipur and Ranthambore is about 180 km. By Road, it is about 167.7 km and will take about 3 h 25 min to reach Ranthambore National Park from Jaipur.
RANTHAMBORE NATIONAL PARK
The best destination in Ranthambore is the Ranthambore National Park. Surrounded by Aravali and Vindhya hill the park is very close to the Thar Desert. This park is one of the finest places to view animals. The park covers an area of approximately 400 sq km. Ranthambore national park was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1957 and in 1974. It is the biggest Tiger Reserve in India. The tigers in this park are famous to be seen in daylight too. This park is also the house for various other wild species namely leopards, hyenas, sambhar, jackals, deer and many more. This is a wonderful place to watch birds too as there are over 260 species found here. Jeep safari is available to roam into the park.
History: It is said that the place was once a favorite hunting place of the kings of Rajasthan but in the year 1981 it got the status of ‘Ranthambore National Park’.
Best Time To Come: The park remains open for visitors from October to May, but the best time to make a wonderful tour, would be between November and March.
In the year 944 AD, Ranthambore Fort was built on a hilltop. From this fort, the Ranthambore National Park view is awesome. The fort is one of the oldest forts in India. Built by a Chauhan warrior, the fort is 7km in width. It had remained a powerful fort that was hard to conquer owing to its topographical advantage. The craftsmanship & the interior design are seriously spellbinding. Hammir Court in the fort is a famous & most viewed area.
Surwal lake is located 25 km away from Ranthambore. It is really a beautiful lake to enjoy. The best time to be here is between November and March, as the birds from all parts of the world spread their wings to reach here in this season for migration. Though Mother Nature has blessed this lake with all her beauty but the lake remains dry in summer.
It is located on the border of Ranthambore National Park and it draw the attention at first sight. Jeep safari is also available here and various wild animals like deer, wild boar and sloth bear including leopards are seen often in this area.
RAJ BAGH RUINS
Between Padam Talao and Raj Bagh Talao Raj Bagh Ruins are situated. It creates a flashback of the prehistoric periods as it is a collection of prehistoric monuments. There are some ruins of palace outhouses, arches and domes of ancient time. It is one of the attractive places in Ranthambore.
